Yemen (FETP)

The Yemen Field Epidemiology Training Program was first established in Sanaa in 2011 to strengthen the country’s public health system by addressing critical shortages in trained epidemiologists capable of responding to the complex public health challenges arising from Yemen’s prolonged humanitarian crisis. In March 2022, the program expanded to Aden, further enhancing national capacity for outbreak detection, disease surveillance, and rapid response. A significant milestone was achieved in November 2024, when a ministerial decree established the Yemen National Public Health Institute (Y-NPHI), under which the FETP now operates as a core institutional component. Through this integration, the program continues to build national resilience by training a new generation of field epidemiologists capable of leading Yemen’s recovery and health security efforts.
